Flow Visualization

Introduction

Hello, we are the Flow Visualization team of EID103: Principles of Design.

Under the guidance of Professor Wootton and Professor Lima of the Cooper Union, our team set out to develop a flow delivery system. Ultimately, our goal was to develop improvements that could allow for a visible and qualitative understanding of flow.

Problem Statement

The current wind tunnel does not allow immediate or three dimensional qualitative visuals. We aim to develop a system for flow visualization capable of displaying flow pathlines for two and three dimensional bodies. This system should be viewable to the naked eye. Furthermore, it should allow for extended analysis by capturing images of the flow in three dimensions.

Drawbot

The Drawbot Competition was held on April 20th, 2012.

Each team in the EID 103: Principles of Design class set out to use two stepper motors to create a drawing device.A triangular template was printed, and each group's machine was to draw out a triangle by remaining within the lines. Ultimately, each group was to utilize two stepper motors, an Arduino, a motor shield, and some pen mount.

Lifting Bed Design

Each team was asked to create a lifting bed. The aim of such a bed was to increase living space and convenience. Our team created a design with the following bill of materials:
