Hurling a pumpkin over a large range requires a powerful, sturdy, and efficient machine. These machines are celebrated at the World Championship Punkin Chunkin Competition. Competitions like these teach new generations of engineers valuable skills. To enter the competition, we need to create a machine capable of launching a pumpkin extreme distances(in the thousands of feet), while keeping in mind price, manufacturability, feasibility, and safety. Furthermore, the machine has to adhere to the rules of the competition as stated by the WCPCA official rules and safety handbook. We plan to reach these goals by optimizing less conventional trebuchet designs using advanced static and kinetic modeling.
