Calibrating the LVDT

The LVDT constant relates the change in voltage signal from the LVDT to the change in position. This constant can be found using the built in LVDT calibration window.

  1. Measure a point between the motor and a stationary point on the tester
  2. Enter the distance into the LVDT calibration window
  3. Move the motor
  4. Measure the same to points
  5. Enter the new distance into the window
  6. etc..

Trying to get a good spread of voltages by moving the motor is a good idea.

A linear regression is performed on the points and the resulting slope is the LVDT constant. Since only the slope is used, what points are measured doesn't matter. The value can be saved to the settings window if you want to reuse it.
