First Assignment

These skectes were for my first assignment. I was asked to draw any ideas regarding the group project regardless of how ambitious or ridiculuous they seemed. I added notes to each page(Yes, I admit that my handwritting is not beautiful nor legible). *for IE users, click on magnifier or ctrl+mouse scroll to change the size of the page if the picture does not fit to your screen

Page 1

This page includes concept about water toys. These use sensors to detect the direction of the user and will automatically move toward the direction. The sensor will be worn in the user's ankle like a watch. The toys will be fully encapsulated to avoid water damage and will use induction coil to avoid exposing internal wirings for contact. The 'Droplet' concept is for kids and uses ducted fan, the 'Tuna' concept is for training ans uses ducted fan inside the mouth allong will tail fin rudder, and the Aqua Bludger concept will have two water jets and uses differnt thrust settings to turn. While the 'Droplet' and 'Tuna' whill have proximity trigger to stop the toy from hitting the user, Aqua Bludger concept will be programmed to ignore the warning unless instructed otherwise.

This page includes a system of concepts about Airsoft-Laser game. The IR firing mechanism is modulized andfits in to any standard 6mm or 8mm airsoft barrel and IR detection is done by 12+2 IR sensors worn as a harness. According to number of IR detections and location of detection, a player's status can change from 'healthy' to 'scractched', 'injured', 'dead'. A 'scrached' player cannot fire his or her gun for 5 minutes, a injured person will be dead unless healed within next 3 minutes. The player can only moved by inserting a rescue pin by other player. The pin is connected to the body via cables short enough to prevent the player from inserting his own rescue pin. If he tries to move without pin inserted more than 5 m, he is automatically dead. Resupply and healing actions can be done by resupply pins and healing pins. A Player's status can be monitored via watch type display. The arduino is reporgammable and can have customized health, ammo, armor values per player, which can be incorporated with field upgrades(such as Team Fortress's UBER MODE). Custom rules can be easily set by players with little or no experience with arduino. The concept was inspired by the MILES(Multiple Integrated Laser Engagment System) used by militaries around the world, but is lot more cheaper by disregarding some features(GPS, ABC weaponry simulation, etc) and added some game features(electronic ammunition, health bar, buddy rescue) for more fun.

This page includes various concepts using arduino for music

-Collaspable Harp: Bascially a air harp, but has loose strings to mark where the notes are, and can be fold for easier carriage. Grooves allow better grip.

-Electronic Danso:4 buttons and 1 pressure sensitive swithch. Pitch selection in done by feet, and magnitude control is done by blowing the flow meter in the mouthpiece.

-Air Trombone:Uses Ultrasonic rangfinder to find the range between the hands and use the data to control pitch. Magnitude is controlled by hand's pressure on the grip

-Air Trumphet:Hand held trumphet with 3 piston and pitch/magnitude controls. Ergonomically designed to fit in hand and has wrist string attached to prevent it from falling.

-Projection Instrument:Projects keys with laser on the floor. Can be used as piano, drum, etc..

This page includes variable concepts using arduino for excercising.

-Arduino Snowboarding: Uses sensors to detect body motion such as tilting, jumping, turning and relays the signal to the snowboard game imput.

-Arduino Pillow Fights: Pillow with sensor attached. Allows player to actually 'score' hits in competitve pillow fights.

-Arudino conducting game: Condcutor's baton with motion sensor reads player's movement to a electronic orchestra. The orchestra(midi) plays according to player's movements

-Wearable Bang Pad Sword fighting:Players wear protective gears installed with sensors. The armor set consists of;1)Torso(shoulder to waist), 2)Rerebrace(upper arm) 3)Gauntlet(lower arm+fingers, also prevents wrist from overbending) 4)Tassets(Upper Leg). Scores are only caunted from 1)arm 2)upper leg 3)torso. Although head piece is not included in the set nor counts as hit, user is recommended to wear one. Sword to be used will have blade length of 70~90 depending on the user. Ideal size and shape would be middle finger tip-shoulder for total sword length, two handed grip, no pommel, slightly curved and one bladed sabre weighting less than 1kg.(Values come from experience and experiments. Easy to control-enough length for defense) The sword would have wodden core with rubber outside. The overall impact on the user must be light(must not leave any bruises) so sensors must be sensitive enough to pick them up. As with Airsoft-Laser, different input threshold level can be applied to armor parts easily by the user.

This page includes various concepts using arduino for outdoors/indoors

-Automatic Air Mortar: Fires balls using air pressure into preset area. Controls angle by turning the barrel and distance by varying air pressure. Can autoload.

-Air Box Bass:Arduino version of Tea Baox Bass. Hand poisition is determined by ultrasonic rangfinder. Gloves with pyzoelectric sensors detect magnitude. Entire assembly is foldable and body is a multipurpose amp that can be connected to up to 4 instruments.

-Homer: You home an RC aircraft with payload. Drop timing is determined manualy by ground conroller with homing device. Attacking team must intercept the payload. Defending team must secure the payload.

-Cat Ball:Cat ball with asymetric weight inside. By turning the weight, it can roll around by its own. Moves in random direction whenever proximity target attached to Cat is close.

This page includes concepts for COLLECT COINS FOR COOPER project. The project is similar to making a gumball machine, except coins you put to this machine will be donated to the school and instead of gumballs, balls with numbers to represent the points you have donated runs along the track. The track used will be different according to how much points you donate. It may be a good idea to link this project with the giving tree idea.

This page includes drawings for Manual Robot concept. Manual Robot is a robot with arms, hands and eyes that do undesirable works(cleaning your bathtub with chlorine included chemicals, etc) while the human controller is safely away from the robot. It reproduces full arm movement and can change its hands on the field without help. Distance between the eyes, length or arm parts can be easily adjusted to controller's dimensions. Complex features as fully functional 10 digit hands, bipedal locomotion are not included for cost reduction, although can be incorportated if needed. Active suspension allows robot to sit and adds additional tilt angles to robot's movements.

This page includes drawings for Arduino Auto Nerf Turret(ANT) concept. Fully autofiring nerf gun is installed on a trypod. Ranging and target acquisiton sensors are maounted coaxially to the gun and includes IR lights for night time operations. The gun can be fired both manually and automatically. IFF is done by the IFF gate by the door, which regards any human sized movement detected by the sensor not accompanied by designated RFID card as enemy.

Practice concepts on desining a cute toy. Since the concept was to make swimming a more enjoyable experience, the concept was aimed for being friendly. This was especially important for the 'Droplet' concept which was aimed for kids. Rubber duck concept was not drawn for the newsprint paper because droplet shape was more favorable in terms of braoder age range and cultures.
