February Minutes

02/28/12

Kristin Miller and Yee ho Song met to dissect the Nemo toy. They studied the motor, the waterproofing techniques, and the balancing technigues. They also discussed aspects of the toy that would be good to incorporate into the prototype. They took several pictures and some video to document this.

02/27/12

Kristin Miller and Yee ho Song met and talked about the 1:1 scale mockup of the prototype and discussed about when to meet to study a model of a toy fish currently in available in the market.

02/21/12

Kristin Miller and Yee ho song met to film the demo video for the robot fish. They filmed a video of Arduino connected to a LED and IR rangefinder. Also, they tested using the servo motors, got a battery holder from EE lab, and asked Professor Lima about servo motors. In the end, they got the servo motor working, but more practice is needed to learn how to control the servo motor fully.

02/16/12

Kristin and Yee ho discussed materials, waterproofing, and the fish's spinal assembly. They also discussed survey options with Professor Lima and identified a tub that can be used for testing. They also met to work on learning how to use an Arduino. They asked Professor Wolf for materials and were given 2 Sharp GP2D12 F 8X sensors, one Arduino Duemilanove, 2 HK928BB servo motors, and a USB cord. They got as far as making the sensor detect distances, but after about 5 minutes it stopped working. The values started to oscillate around 250. They were unable to troubleshoot the issue. However, despite the troubles at the end of the meeting, they are now about 3 days ahead of schedule in learning to use the Arduino. In addition, it was discovered that their previous minutes had been deleted at some point.

02/15/12

Kristin and Yee ho met to discuss the results of the survey. The Fish won (61 to 56) against the Laser Tag Game, and developments will now take place for the fish design. They have temporarily given the prototype the name “Polly” and wrote their problem statement and time table.

02/14/12

Kristin Miller and Yee ho Song met at 12:00 to discuss the general survey on two concepts(Laser Turret/Fish) that started on 02/13/12. New drawings were prepared for this meeting to make the concepts easy to understand for survey takers.

02/10/12

Kristin Miller and Yee ho Song met to discuss a survey to determine which of the final concepts to move forward with. It was determined that Kristin would draw more detailed Laser Tag game and Yee ho would draw a more detailed Fish. The survey will begin on Monday comprised of people both in and outside of the Cooper Union.
