Polly

Our goal is to take the previous Arduino game concept of the “stalker robot” and build upon this idea. We plan to design a robotic fish for children ages 3-12. This toy will be programmed to accurately follow the child in the water and to move realistically. This lovable robotic toy, named Polly, will be interactive, safe, and securely waterproof. As a family friendly toy, Polly will encourage physical activity and bring happiness and joy to children and parents alike.

Weekly Goals

04/14/12 - 04/21/12

Work on the final presentation. Practice waterproofing a servo motor and the electronics compartment. Create final assembly.

04/06/12 - 04/13/12

Modify Polly III for final design that incorporates the electronics compartment.

03/30/12 - 04/05/12

Make Polly III prototype that includes accurate bulkheads and keel sizing. Continue development of search programming. Find water proof options for the electronics compartment.

03/09/12 - 03/23/12

Finalize spine materials. Finalize which motor to use. Experiment with water resistance of the tail mechanism. Experiment with placing materials in water.

03/01/12 - 03/08/12

Make a working model of the tail mechanism. Locate more mentors. Go to Canal Plastics, Canal Rubber, and Mood to perform a material study. Find out more about ballasts. Consider ways to move the center of gravity.

02/23/12 - 02/29/12

Make a mock up of the robot fish. Locate mentors. Take apart a fish toy in the market and perform an analysis.
