Discussed developing a notification system where notifications with random messages appear

Project Outline:

	* Create message with notification
	* Create message with random notification (i.e. Hello/Goodbye)
	* Create message with random notification with no repeat (i.e. if first is Hello, next alert has to be Goodbye)
	* Create a Bin in which a selection of messages can be chosen

Here are some projects that I worked on:

EID 103: Cooper Formula SAE Race car

I am on The Cooper Union FSAE team, the goal of which is to create a formula race car for competition in the annual FSAE race. My first project was designing and building a footrest for the driver's cockpit. The idea was to create a plate that the driver could rest their feet on while driving. This would ease the process of getting in and out of the car, as well as protect the brake pistons,…

Hey everyone. My name is Arven Rulona. I am a freshman mechanical engineer and member of the Cooper Union class of '16. Here are some of the projects that I took part in.

Cooper Motorsports

Both as a member of Cooper Motorsports and for my EID101 class, I took part in helping design the team's formula car. I took part in the impact attenuator subgroup. As stated in the name, we were tasked with designing and manufacturing the impact attenuator. Placed on the front of the ca…

We machined a new channel on the cap mold made by the Speedy Capper 2011 group. The new channel makes the cap we designed earlier this year.

The New Cap

A solid works model of the new cap which is thinner and more flexible.

The original design did not allow for the cap to bend easily because it was too thick. This would make creating a mechanism to remove caps to be difficult. We needed a new design for the cap that allowed for easy bending and durability.

Course Description

This course is designed to introduce students from all disciplines to the concepts of rational design. It is open to first-year students and sophomores. In the first part of the course students will learn by hands-on experience the importance of giving attention at the design stage to consideration of accessibility, repair, replacement, choice of materials, recycling, safety, etc. Students will develop the ability to make observations and record them in suitable for…

In order to do this we split the piece into two and threaded them; such that, they may be screwed together. We are proud of this design because it eloquent to manufacture and use. It is just 4 parts which can be made quickly. Additionally, this model in particular is a recycled mystery plastic, and recycled polycarbonate.

Prototyping

We 3D printed to solidworks model of the second speedy capper iteration, and produced this lovely pink piece to work with as an uncapper. Although crude, it can wedge caps with success without the addition of a groove or rubber stopper material to help fix the cap. We still plan to modify this tube and order springs.

The model printed is the Speedy Capper D2 model, and we gained a lot of information from this model, which was considered in the Speedy Capper Design 3 model.

This is the third speedy capper design, and the final design for this semester. The modifications made from Speedy Capper D2 are slight, but important. During prototyping we noticed it was easier to uncap when there was something to stop the cap from traveling all the way up the tube. Additionally, this model has a small notch to help trap the corner of a cap. Lastly, this model is also slightly wider than D2 because we noticed that when the diameter was too close to the cap width you had a high…

We scavenged motors and gears from a printer that we picked up for free on craigslist. Professor Lima, our wise, powerful, and generous mentor, provided us with the Arduino controllers.
Throttle - EID 101
This the throttle I built for EID 101, my first semester of my freshman year at The Cooper Union. The throttle is responsible for controlling the air flow into the engine. This throttle does this with a sliding plate that reveals the throat of the intake, allowing air into the engine. The overlapping of two areas is called a convolution of areas, and when two like shapes overlap each other, the change in shared in area is nearly linear. For more in depth information, you can…

Throttle Updates
The throttle produced in EID 101 worked, and is a useful tool for calibrating the engine for a convolution throttle, but posed some issues. It is difficult to repair and maintain, and could be optimized in some other aspects as well. So working off of a design change from Spyros Korsanos, I am designing a new throttle which is a bit more user friendly.
