The throttle is responsible for controlling the air flow into the engine. This throttle does this with a sliding plate that reveals the throat of the intake, allowing air into the engine. The overlapping of two areas is called a convolution of areas, and when two like shapes overlap each other, the change in shared in area is nearly linear.
