02/09/2012 Meeting Minutes

The group arrived at the Tiger Party offices with new material to present to Ganesh and Raphael. Peter and Jenna shared their new design ideas with Ganesh while Raphael worked through some of the attachment logistics with Wojciech.

Peter and Jenna presented some new animated and interactive ideas. The Giving Tree was still an option; with the tree illuminated with regular LEDs and the QR code coming from infrared LEDs. The two new ideas they discussed were Cooper Union interactive propaganda and a design to be interactive with the general public. Rather than helping to single out the best idea, Ganesh contributed otherwise, by pointing out the major flaws and challenges to be faced in general. He mentioned how no matter what we do we have a way of making people take out their phones or cameras, otherwise no one will see the IR. He suggested, and Peter and Jenna agreed, of a two part design, the main part being made with LEDs emitting light from the visible spectrum with the IR LEDs enhancing that image. For example, the actual Giving tree could be made out of normal LEDs while the QR code is displayed in IR. For next week's meeting, he suggested that Jenna and Peter begin narrowing down their ideas, given the constraints of the project, both interactivity and what they think Cooper would be most willing to fund.

Wojciech showed Raphael his initial designs of attaching the LEDs. He wanted to create a casing for each LED and then place that casing in the honeycomb mesh. He originally wanted each casing and LED to be installed separately but Raphael urged him to create strips and panels of them, even the size of one mesh panel in order to optimize the installation process for the maintenance crew. Wojciech also showed his idea for molding the casings and said he would get started on a SolidWorks model, which he would use to 3D print the mold.

Finally, as an entire group, the timeline was discussed. Raphael and Ganesh showed the software they use, Microsoft Project and demonstrated how a proper timeline is constructed, using both milestones, work to be done, and times allotted to each step. Peter, Jenna and Wojciech also assumed special roles within the group. Jenna would be design lead, Wojciech the hardware lead, and Peter would be the Project Manager. As Project Manager, Peter will download the timeline software and create a plan for the work to be done up until the midterm proposal.
