This is one of my best experineces in engineering.
This an airplane that I built in my junior high school year. I designed it from scratch on CAD using smaller Balsa wood models and a model airplane book. Every piece was laser cut to obtain the most workable tolerance and precision, especially since there were many repeated parts, quality control was key. Only the nose of the plane was hand-carved and eyeballed into place. On June 6, the plane flew for over 300ft before the undercharged batteries gave way to a successful crash landing on a sandy baseball field–my shop teacher did not permit me to properly charge the lithium ion batteries (pretty lame ai)!
Behold the plane.
