Problem Statement

Many scientists use Eppendorf tubes everyday. These Eppendorf tubes can be very frustrating due to the problems that one has to face when dealing with them. When Eppendorf tubes are placed in rows on a rack, many times the caps overlap with another tube and results in a mess of tubes and caps. As a result of this, it becomes difficult to cap the individual tubes. Since scientists use hundreds of tubes at a time, it is sometimes hard to keep track of where he/she left off. Also, when dealing with Eppendorf tubes scientists have to continuously remove tubes from the rack, vortex them, and pipet a substance from them. Since the tubes are crowded together, it is difficult to remove a single tube without disturbing the other tubes. Therefore, these added issues make it difficult for scientists to smoothly conduct experiments, etc. Our goal is to find a way to make it easier to cap and uncap the tubes, to reduce the number of hands used in throughout the process, and to keep the scientist's place when working with the tubes.
