According to the New York Organ Donor Network(1) , about eighteen people die every day waiting for organ transplants in the U.S. and only one person is added to the waiting list every ten minutes. Only a small faction of people in need of new organ receive successful transplant because many organs are often contaminated or damaged during the transportation or the preservation process due to exposure to contaminated air and extreme temperature. We plan to redesign an existing allograft preservation chamber to solve these problems. Our new design will provide greater protection for the tissue while maintaining sterility for prolonged period of time. Our improved design will keep tissues securely isolated from outside environment in order to minimize contamination. Furthermore, new chamber will allow fluid media to be constantly exchanged without complete exposure of tissues. The new design will also have mechanisms to indicate numerous failures such as freezing and contamination in order to make sure millions of people receive only healthy and viable organs. 2011 Group designed the system that exchanges liquid media using two pumps. However, their design was not securely isolated from outside environment and sterile. Therefore we plan to newly build a sterile and completely sealed chamber and pump system. ==== Progress ==== * [[Sealing IV bag with impulse sealer]] * [[First successful run of pump system|First successful run of the pump system]] * [[IV bag with input/output valve]] * [[Alduino control system turning on the pump|Arduino control system turning on the pump]] * [[IV bag test]] * [[Cylindrical chamber]] * [[Pump system with cylindrical chambers]] * [[Solenoid valve control with arduino]] * [[Installation of air inlet/outlet filter]] * [[New control system board]] * [[Final system test]] ===== EID103 Group Assignments ===== - [[House of Quality for Automatic Lift Bed (PDF)]] - [[Automatic Lift Bed Competitor Research]] - [[Automatic Lift Bed Design]] - [[Stepper Motor Testing]] - [[Drawbot Component Explanation]] - [[Drawbot Competition]] ===== EID103 Individual Assignments ===== - [[Individual Sketches - Jae Sung Song|Individual Sketches]] - [[Individual Sketch.
